The Ballet Bag

Since I have begun blogging about ballet myself, I decided to start checking out other dance blogs. At first I was looking for inspiration but eventually my genuine interest led me down the rabbit hole of reading multiple blogs on the ballet topic.

One of the best dance blogs I came across was The Ballet Bag! One of the things that drew me to The Ballet Bag is that it is so approachable; it is almost as if the whole point of The Ballet Bag is to prove that ballet is not stuffy and that it truly is accessible. This blog shows ballet in a new light!

One of my favorite parts of The Ballet Bag blog is its interview section. The contributors to The Ballet Bag conduct interviews with different dancers. What is so great about this is that they humanize the art form by introducing their readers to the people dancing in major companies around the world.

One of my favorite interviews they conducted is with American Ballet Theater's Principal dancer, Alban Lendorf. This is a dancer I had always heard of, starting with his early days in the Royal Danish Ballet. Alban shot to the rank of Principal at the young age of 21 and I always wanted to know his story.

After reading this interview of Alban, I had the pleasure of attending one of his shows at the Metropolitan Opera this summer. I don’t think I would have jumped at the opportunity to go to his show if it were not for the fact that I had read his interview. Knowing his story and getting to know him made attending his performance more approachable.

Basically, the interview section of The Ballet Bag is like a cheat sheet for those who don’t spend their days around the rosin box. For someone like myself, it is a cheat sheet for getting to know dancers who dance half way around the world from me.

Go check The Ballet Bag out!
